I “get” it.

By Jon Simons

I began that particular day as I often do most any day… by writing out my to do list.  Between work, home and an upcoming vacation, I had plenty of things “to do.”  It just so happened that one of the standing items on my list was to try and read something inspirational every day.

What luck!  Not only did I get a much needed lift from Tim Sander’s book Today We Are Rich: Harnessing the Power of Total Confidence, but I was also given permission to do away with my “to do” list!  Let me explain.

One of Tim’s core concepts is that we need find gratitude in our daily living.  On the subject of the never-ending list of obligations and tasks we call our “to do” list, Tim suggests that we find gratitude in our daily chores by simply adding the word “get” to our “to do” list.  This simple adjustment has had a profound impact on my attitude and my gratitude.

A few examples:

Rather than having to clean my office (ugh), I GET to clean my office, which reminds me of how lucky I am to have a job that I love and that I have the opportunity to work from my home (Yay!).

Rather than having to figure out what to cook for dinner (ugh), I GET to provide dinner for my wife.  I take a moment to acknowledge that many in this world go to bed hungry.  (We are blessed!)

The next time you create a dreaded “to do” list, try dropping in the simple word “get” at the beginning… and see if your attitude shifts as well!
