The Best Question Ever

by Jon Simons

I just finished reading “The Best Question Ever” by Andy Stanley and just about wore out my highlighter trying to capture the thoughts and ideas that spoke to me!  This author has a gift for bringing the obvious to light in ways that make you say “well of course.”  One such “aha” moment for me came from the following statement:  “There is a cumulative value to investing small amounts of time in certain activities over a long period of time.”

I think that this rather simple premise can have far reaching implications.  Our daily food choices have a significant effect on our long-term health.  Small yet regular deposits into a savings account now will move us toward financial security in the future.  Quality time with our children today will help to strengthen our relationships with them for many tomorrows.

When considering our efforts to raise money, the simple discipline of making small deposits in donor relationships is critical.  You can be sure that how you treat your donors and volunteers today will have a significant impact on their future decisions to support your good work.  Invest the time in them today and they are more likely to invest in you in the future.

I just finished reading “365 Thank Yous” – a book that followed author John Kralik’s attempts to write 365 thank-you notes in a year and how his life changed in the process. It’s another reminder that seemingly-little efforts can bring amount significantly-greater results.

Will have to get a copy of “The Best Question Ever!”
