When Hurricane Irene struck the eastern U.S. earlier this week, the storm caused devastation over many states, affecting millions of people. Like you, we have many friends and family members who are coming to terms with what they have lost.
While it’s never easy to predict how one will react in the face of adversity, it has been remarkable to observe the different ways people, companies and organizations have responded to the challenges presented by the hurricane and the subsequent flooding.
It’s amazing to watch some organizations scramble to hold a meeting to decide how to respond, while others simply start doing, sharing and helping however they can. Some organizations are still reeling from the shock, while others were actively working on solutions mere hours after the waters receded.
Maybe you’ve heard the saying that the surest way to a good recovery (from surgery or an accident) is to start healthy. While all organizations get stronger from surviving a challenge, the healthy organization is best able to rebound, learn the lessons and move forward.
For those of you picking up the pieces from Hurricane Irene, our hearts and prayers are with you. For those of you lucky enough to avoid the storm – this time – ask yourselves this: How ready are we to respond when the going gets rough?

Our good friends at Frost Valley YMCA have a major cleanup ahead of them. Click on the picture to learn more.
