J. David Schmidt brings a wealth of experience on strategic thinking, large scale innovation and organization leadership development for nonprofit organizations, foundations and more.
Partnering with Donor By Design Group, David brings nearly 40 years of nonprofit management experience to the DBD Team. He has developed skills and methodologies that help nonprofits plan for and achieve their vision.
David’s experience across a variety of nonprofits gives him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by organizations of all sizes. He provides counsel for:

- Board Development
Through his leadership consulting practice, J. David Schmidt & Associates (JDS&A), David has helped a broad cross-section of faith-based and non-profit organizations, foundations and high net worth individuals set direction, develop strategy and build capacity for greater impact.
David has worked with organizations as diverse as the Salvation Army, Willow Creek Association, YMCA of the USA, Idaho Youth Ranch, American Bible Society and more.
David is also the author of seven books. He writes and speaks about strategy, leadership, organizational development, and innovation in the nonprofit sector.
He completed his undergraduate work at Nyack College and earned a Master of Arts degree from Wheaton College in cross-cultural communications.
David and his wife Melinda make their home in the suburbs of Chicago.
