A respected speaker, trainer and nationally recognized speechwriter, Dan is known as an artful and insightful communicator. He is also the designer of the Message Triangle, a technique to keep communication concise, coherent and consistent within your organization.
Prior to Donor By Design, Dan served as Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit; receiving YMCA’s top fundraising award in 2012 (Eagle Award) for fundraising excellence in the North America. He served many years as National Director at the YMCA of the USA, where he led nationwide communications and marketing as well as the YMCA's strategic positioning campaign. Based on his lengthly public policy experience, he also oversaw the YUSA Public Policy Office in Washington, D.C.
For a decade, Dan served as Chief Communications Officer for the American Medical Association after starting his career on Capitol Hill as press aide and speech writer to US Senator Alan J. Dixon.
A graduate of the University of Notre Dame (BA) and the University of Michigan (MBA), Dan served for 12 years on the North American YMCA Development Organzation (NAYDO) Council. He makes his home in Ann Arbor, MI with his wife and two children.
